I Will Be Resurrected

I will be resurrected.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” (John 11:25)

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  (John 3:16)

That is an amazing thought.  Though I die, yet I will be raised from death to life.

Death is a darkness for many people in the world, a void, a nothing.  For some people of faith, it is a restart or something altogether new.

None of this is true for Christians.  Death is a continuation of eternal life, a relocation of sorts.

Once when I was visiting with a committee about becoming a pastor of a church, they began to discuss compensation.  They told me I would have two weeks of vacation.  When I mentioned that I had reached three weeks of vacation at the church I already was serving, one lady told me that when her husband changed companies, he had to go back to the beginning on benefits.

I replied, “I am not changing companies.  I will work for the same employer [God].  I am just changing branch offices.”

Death is like that for those of us who have eternal life.  We will be changing branches, from Earth to Heaven, through Jesus who is “the resurrection and the life.”

What a beautiful and wonderful way to live, to know that when we die, we actually keep on living.

Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.  For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.  So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

“O Death, where is your sting?

O Hades, where is your victory?”   (I Corinthians 15:51-55)

I will be resurrected.
